What a Wreck!

I've held off as long as I could but I really had to share this blog with you. It's called Cake Wrecks - When Professional Cakes Go Horribly, Hilariously Wrong . It's hysterical! I actually laugh out loud and sometimes to the point of tears reading it. Not only are the cakes featured really wrecks created by PROFESSIONAL bakers but the commentary accompanying the pictures is really the icing on the cake. I know that wasn't funny but Cake Wrecks is so check it out!

You MUST go back and read some of the older posts. One of my favorites is Failure to Communicate. Here's just a few pics from that post.

Introducing...

Kelsey Reckless

Kelsey has just joined Bliss Weddings & Event staff as a Senior Event Assistant. I asked Kelsey to share a little bit about herself and why she wanted to become a wedding planner.
I graduated from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. After which I began taking educational classes through Columbus Bridal Consultants (CBC) and the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) earning the designation of Professional Bridal Consultant™. I currently live in Dublin with my husband Kirk and our two “kids”: a black kitty named Salem and a yellow Labrador Retriever named Scout.
I believe a wedding is a life-changing event that, even though it lasts only a day, will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who took part in the special occasion. After planning my own wedding in May 2006, I knew this was my life’s calling: to help other couples create their dream wedding and to give them these eternal happy memories.
You'll be seeing a lot more of Kelsey as she will be assisting me and taking the lead on her own events. Welcome to the team Kelsey!

What You Don't See

My friend Emily at Emily Duncan Event Planning just emailed this picture over and I thought I'd share it with you. I assisted her with a wedding last month and the photographer snapped this picture of us hard at work. Yes, contrary to popular belief we wedding planners are friends and we do help each other out when our schedules permit! It actually makes for a great event because there are two professionals on site.

Thanks for sharing Em!

15

I'm so happy, excited and proud to announce the grand opening of 15!

15 is a shared meeting space in the Short North that I have the pleasure and honor of sharing with Amy from C Studios and Janna from Janna Coe Designs. We've been hard at work for the past month and a half to pull everything together for the space and our grand opening gala.

The grand opening party was a huge success. We had almost 100 attendees comprised of clients, vendors, friends and family members. Everyone who came out to celebrate had a fantastic time. I was honestly sad when 9pm rolled around and our party was over.

Janna did the most gorgeous floral displays. You can see in the pictures below how talented she is. Amy's beautiful pictures adorn our walls and she captured the mood and feel perfectly of the party. I felt like I was reliving it again just looking at her pictures!

I'd like to say thank you to the following vendors for their donations to our event. They really did go out of their way to ensure our party was a success.

Made From Scratch provided delightful hors d'oeuvres and our bartender who did a great job keeping the Bellini's chilled and flowing.

The Cake Studio provided our adorable little mini cookie cakes that were our favors. Everyone was so excited to take a little box home.

Jan Kish La Petite Fleur provided the a fabulous lemon cake that the guests enjoyed at the party. She also treated everyone to her famous truffles (little balls of chocolate cake dipped in chocolate). Can you say heaven?!

Lasting Impressions provided our beautiful linens and glassware for the party. Our retro champagne flutes were just the right touch of fabulousness we needed!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and our exciting new endeavor. I really have to send a big thank you to my husband who worked tirelessly on the space to help make is perfect for us. I couldn't have done it without you!

Surprise!

I AM SO EXCITED!

Today as I was perusing my favorite blogs, I discovered that Liene at the Smart Planner and Blue Orchid Designs has featured little ol' me today in her Meet the Planners series. I love the Smart Planner blog because Liene is an amazing planner herself and it's filled with such great information and ideas.

Thanks Liene for the feature today!

Paper Dolls

My clients Carrie and Jacob created these fun save the dates all by themselves. Jacob is a graphic artist so this was something they just had to do. I love that the dolls really do look like them. Instructions for cutting the dolls out and assembling them are on the back of the card. It was sent at a post card so it was very efficient in minimal paper waste and postage.

They also designed their own invitations that I had to share with you as well. I am in love with their color palette for their September wedding. Red and Aqua are so chic!

Cape Hatteras + Sharks = Great Vacation

Yes that is right! I actually enjoy seeing sharks!
I spent last week in Cape Hatteras, NC with my Dad scuba diving. I thought I'd share a few highlights with you today. We dove all week with Outer Banks Diving on the Flying Fish. This was our first year out with them and it was so much fun. We especially enjoyed the hot dogs in the afternoon for lunch in between dives. (Thanks Milton!) We made two dives a day on the boat. We were generally 20-30 miles off shore each day in 100+ feet of water. We only had rough seas one day (Tuesday). The swells were between four and six feet so we got tossed around quite a bit. I am happy to report that we were sea sick free that day!

Dad and I have been going to NC for many years now diving all along the coast. Lots of shipwrecks, warm water and sea life. Our largest shark we saw this year was an 11' Sand Tiger on the Tarpon at 130'. It was so cool!

We were joined by Dad's dear friends - Walt, John and Bill. Walt snapped the underwater pictures you'll see below. They really are as close as they look.

The weather was beautiful and the diving was great. Now we just have to wait another year to do it all over again!

Capt. Koch (John) had this banner made and it was hanging out side the hotel when we arrived. It's their own little dive club! I can't tell you what it means though because it's classified. ; )

Here's the boat - We were a little nervous because we had been on a similar boat (with another dive operation) a few years ago and it was miserable in many ways. We were pleasantly surprised to find we were quite comfortable on board this year. The bean bags on the upper deck were especially comfy to nap on between dives!

Time to get the gear ready before leaving the dock. That big silver tank with the green and yellow label was one of my tanks. The sticker is for nitrox air and says "Geezer Gas". So we nicknamed it "Geezer" for the week. Thanks Bill for letting me use it again this year.

Oooooo Sharks!

Here's dad and I swimming along the bottom. That's me on the left! It looks like we're headed back the anchor, that means times up and it's we've got to get back to the hang line to decompress.

Here's the hang line under the boat. It's at about 15 - 20 feet. We spend a lot of time here after a dive burning off that nitrogen. Dad is floating off the line on the left and I'm on the line in front of him. Bill's on the far right looking at the camera. Yes the water really is that blue!

Sand Tiger cruising by.

Here's another.

This was our off that we didn't get to dive because the winds were too strong. So we went and climbed the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. We tried last year but it was too hot and it was closed!

Isn't it pretty!

A view from the top. I was actually trying to get a picture of the Diamond Shoals lighthouse that is 12 miles off shore and we could see. I didn't have my zoom so it didn't work as well as I would have liked.

Dad and Wally at the top.

Time to make the long walk down the stairs. I think it was 257 stairs to be exact. My legs were a little jello-y when I got to the bottom.

These are Sea Oats. They grow all over the dunes. They are so pretty aren't they?

Happy Anniversary...

So I'm a little late posting this because I forgot to do this before I left for vacation...oopps!

On August 7th my husband and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. It's been a great 4 years and I thank my lucky stars everyday for my amazing husband Shawn. I wouldn't be where I am today with him and all of his love and support.

To Shawn - I love you hun!

Bold and Beautiful

I had to share this beautiful invitation with you. It's for Kim & Derek's upcoming wedding this September. Kim and Derek and a unique couple with a great sense of style. It was no surprise when they selected this Pockets Invitation in mocha, ivory and gold. I can't wait to see how the rest of the wedding comes together using this rich color scheme!

One of My Favorite Things

These candles are one of my most favorite things!
Paul Robinett has70 fabulous scents in his little shop at 7 Buttles in the Short North.  My favorite scent is his original "7 Buttles in a Bottle".
We used these recently in May to create a more personal, cozy  feel at the wedding reception for Erin & Justin. We lit them right after dinner when the sun was starting to set.  After a short while, the wonderful scent filled the pavillion and tent.  Everyone was asking what is that candle?  At the end of the night everyone was fighting over them!  These could also be used as favors if your budget permits.  The jars can be customized with a personal monogram or image of your choice.  You'll see in the picture below, there is a simple monogram K on the jar.
