Katie needs your help!...

Katie from The Cake Studio that is!

I just received a call from her asking if I knew anyone who would be interested in becoming her assistant. I didn't have any one in mind but offered to post this message for her. So if anyone is interested working part time -8am to noon, 2-3 days per week - in the yummiest smelling house around (yes, her house smells like cake!) please send her an email. DO NOT CALL HER!

Contact Katie at katie@thecakestudio.net and tell her you saw this on my blog.

Presents!...A More Personal Touch

Bridal party gifts are a tough item on the to-do list. These are usually a challenge for my clients as well as myself to come up with something creative, useful and within budget.

A favorite for the ladies is a wristlet or bag of some sort...and let's not forget about the ever stylish pashmina too! For the guys, it seems like ties to wear on the Wedding Day work well or a ticket to a favorite sporting event. But how about if you could personalize the gift without being cheesy or slapping a big monogram on the front (don't get me wrong I LOVE monograms and use them all the time) but just something different. How about a custom fabric label that is sewn into the purse or on to the tie or pashmina? Something like this:

Believe it or not they are relatively affordable - around $1 each and are sold in packs of 20. You can customize the entire design (this will increase your cost some) or just the text on the label. I found these at namemaker.com. Theirs ship within 2 days. How about that for different and unique?!

A Funny for Friday...

So it's Friday and it's still cold and grey outside. I am ready for some sun and warm weather...I'd be okay with 50 degrees at this point! I was thinking about all of my friends and family who are off traveling the globe on spring break and it reminded me of one of my Daily Candy emails from a while back.

For those of you who are not familiar with Daily Candy it's one of my favorite things ever. Those girls at DC do an awesome job everyday with thier super fabulous tips on what's hot around the world. This is from thier Travel Lexicon series. I hope you get a little laugh out of it and can relate to a few of them. Enjoy!

arm restle n. the ongoing battle waged with your seatmate over the middle armrest. Maneuvers include elbogarting (slow advance of the elbow to gain ground) and recline and conquer (capturing the armrest during feigned or actual sleep).

flight dependent n. neighboring passenger who, flying solo, turns to you in search of company/a drinking partner/a date.

gabbin pressure n. sense of obligation to chat to the passenger next to you during a flight. (“I’m just recovering from gabbin pressure — I sat next to a real flight dependent.”)

John the Laptist n. the guy in front of you who reclines his seat until his head is in your lap.

mathzheimer’s n. the inability to calculate a foreign exchange rate without elaborate financial and/or tech support.

touron n. tourist + moron. (“Don’t even bother with the Louvre on a Saturday. It’s overrun with tourons.”)

travelanche n. the state of affairs when one little thing goes wrong and then everything snowballs toward disaster. (“It started as a minor delay in Seattle and ended up a full-blown travelanche involving lost luggage, bad airport food, and dire intestinal consequences.”)

U.S.O. n. unidentified stained object; mysterious mark on hotel carpet or bedding. (“Alexis refuses to stay at subpar hotels due to her intense fear of U.S.O.’s.”)

Final Planning Meetings

I have had two Final Planning Meetings in the past week and in each meeting the Bride felt that they were very organized going into the meeting but then at the end felt totally unprepared and a little overwhelmed. So this prompted this PSA.

The purpose of a Final Planning Meeting is to look at all the elements of your wedding, this includes items like venue, the menu and vendors. We'll also discuss other details like ceremony processional, flower placement, table linens, etc. Overall, just make sure that you and I are on the same page. This meeting is so important because when wedding day arrives, I am an extension of you, handling all the details you loved and wanted - just the way you wanted them. You and FI can relax and just enjoy the day knowing I'm working for you to help create a fantastic day you'll always cherish.

Things to remember to bring with you (this is not a complete list but a few of the bigger items we'll discuss) - all of your vendor contracts, pictures of your wedding inspirations - to refresh my memory if I don't have copies of them, copies of your ceremony order, copies of your readings, etc.

So after the final meeting and you've got a to do list the size of Texas, relax and know we'll get it all done and know my team and I have it all under control!

What a great day!

I'm having such a great day today...let's take a look at why.

1. The blog is up and running - which you knew that because you're reading it now.

2. I received the newest Columbus Bride magazine and one of my couples from last year - Aerik and Lindsey Williams was featured. Congrats Aerik and Lindsey! I also received a little credit in their feature. Yay me! This was my first time to be published.

3. I did a walk through of the space that we're doing my photo shoot in next week with Amy from C Studios. It's a fantastic loft space that is modern but comfy. It's going to be great!

4. We have a Columbus Bridal Consultants meeting tonight. I love attending these. I get to hang out with the other planners in the city and just have fun. Emilie from Emilie Duncan Event Planning is giving a presentation abut plagiarism and ethics. We have a small problem with new wedding planners in the city coping website content and partaking in some unethical advertising methods.

5. I also surprised my wonderful hubby at the office today (Meyers & Associates). Since I was in the neighborhood this afternoon I dropped by to say "Hi". He just completed the firm's office building and it's so FABULOUS he did a great job and I'm so proud of him. I'll have to get some pictures to post so everyone can see.

What a day and it's only half over!
